Women in Energy Live & Lead

WEEK-BY-WEEK COURSE OVERVIEW

Session 1 | Identify Your Natural Strengths

Research proves that people succeed when they focus on what they do best. Strengths assessments are positive psychology-based principles that focus on your “positive” attributes. Receive validation and positive feedback, and broaden self-awareness. Identify your talents and develop them into strengths. Be more productive, perform better, and be more engaged. At least three assessments will be administered, such as:

MBTI Indicator: The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®)  is a psychological test instrument that was designed to help people identify psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. The MBTI is based on the typological theory proposed and established by great psychiatrist, Carl Jung.

Gallup’s Clifton StrengthsFinders assessment will identify your talents, discuss and develop your unique combination of skills, talents, and knowledge.

The VIA Survey will scientifically measure your character strengths. Knowing your personal character strengths – what’s best about you as a human being – is powerful knowledge. Understand and nurture what’s right with you versus your faults.

Session 2 | Manage Your Known Strengths

Knowing your strengths can transform you into an outstanding performer. Stop trying to change yourself, and rather learn to directly apply your natural strengths to performance. Learn self-coaching techniques for acting from your best self. Practice proven progress principles that create forward momentum in meaningful work. Learn the Theory of Well-Being (PERMA) and how it will allow you to consistently experience well-being and predictably flourish as a result. Identify your sweet spot – where gifts, passions, talents and dreams intersect. Sessions 4 and 5 will match your natural strengths to your intuitive insights.

Session 3 | Let’s Get Grounded

Grounding goes deeper than psychology; our thoughts, emotions and behaviors. It’s about understanding how our experience of life is created through us, within us, moment to moment. Learn simple techniques to quiet your busy mind, stay open and present, and be able to gain calmness and clarity even in stressful situations. Expand your emotional and behavioral awareness; our psychology is the energy charge, after-the-fact. Understanding is the grounding that looks before all of it. With understanding/grounding, you will experience more consistent peace of mind – until every day starts with a more natural ease and flow. Subtle shifts in understanding will hone your perspective and decision-making abilities.

Session 4 | Your Invisible Power

Like the business you are in, the invisible power of energy manifests itself in a myriad of visible applications. We all have wellness within us. It is your default setting and your true nature, before psychology and physical reality. Explore the nature of thoughts, how they are brought to life in each moment, and how the quality of thoughts become more or less personal. Excessive thinking masks clarity. Take your grounding understanding a step further, and learn effective ways to settle your thinking so that your natural wisdom and insights can shine through. This practice will teach you the important difference between a thought and an insight.

Session 5 | Your Sustainable Energy

Let’s debunk the idea that emotions are bad! Emotion is energy; a thought in action. Your feelings in any given moment are always giving you feedback about your thinking. Ironically, when emotions are high (indicative of lots of thinking), they may push you to judgment, decisions, or actions that are not aligned with your values. These experiences can lead to fear, blame and disconnection. Practice softening around moods, settling into them without fear and allowing them to change more freely. Rather than being pushed to react, learn to wait and respond with a deeper sense of empathy and authenticity. Let go of what people think. Let go of numbing and powerlessness. This session will begin to cultivate bravery and a resilient spirit.

Session 6 | Insight-Out

There is no such thing as a non-creative person. Creativity too often goes unused or suffocated by our fear-based thoughts; which trigger emotions, shift behaviors, resulting in doubt and mistrust of natural strengths. Ignite your creativity by tapping into spontaneous and natural insights. Learn to trust your instincts to spark innovation. Inspire others to share your vision, and ultimately bring more ideas to fruition. See obstacles as opportunities; similar to SmartGrid technology, which was seen as a huge obstacle just a decade ago, and is now the industry’s foundation for the future. Be an Intrapreneur: take direct responsibility within your organization for turning an idea into a service solutions through insightful risk-taking and innovation. Finally, a discussion on the natural cycle of change will help you further embrace opportunity, and you will learn to navigate change as a constant, not a crisis.

Session 7 | The Culture Challenge

Women often have unique work/life balance issues, having multiple family responsibilities outside of work. This is especially challenging within the traditionally structured energy industry. Like transformers – devices that alternate electric circuits when there is a difference in voltage or current – we require a mental device to alternate and balance our energy levels. The key is not in finding the perfect balance, but in understanding the inter-relationship between work, family, and self. Explore the value in counterbalancing priorities rather than comparing and contrasting. Learn how to re-balance on the fly. Boundary-setting skills and living in integrity become essential to overall balance. Learn how to stay true to what’s most important and cooperatively contribute to creating a more flexible and agile work/life environment.

Session 8 | Confidence Redefined

Confidence is similar to energy capacity and reserves. Explore what really makes a woman confident; your capacity for listening to your true self, and the courage to call upon your innate wisdom – an endless reserve resource we all possess. Learn to override fear, doubt, resentment or anger in any situation that may arise. It takes more than behavioral modification techniques that beckon you to be more assertive. Rather, it will be more effective to know your strengths, trust your insights, and demonstrate a sense of compassion (for yourself and others) to truly reveal the depth of your confidence.

Session 9 | Raise Your Voice

The power to raise your voice and communicate effectively begins with silence. Learn how to be an impersonal observer and listen with curiosity. Stay peaceful in the face of criticism and anger. Listen, think, and speak in ways that inspire compassion and understanding (for yourself and others.) Replace old patterns of defending, withdrawing or attacking. Re-frame how you express yourself with the courage to: ask for what you need; speak your truth; own your story; set boundaries; and reach out for support when needed. Staying grounded, being aware of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, knowing and managing your strengths, tapping into insights, and revealing confidence – will naturally result in your clean and clear voice to be heard.

Session 10 | LEAD Your Work

Regardless of your place on the organizational chart, you can influence and lead others who work for you or with you. The best leaders at any level are those who practice the art of followership. Along with effective communications, and shared vision, mission and goals, followership of high performing teams, departments, and organizations is ultimately achieved through trust. Learn the operational definition of trust – a conceptual model that will show you how to get intentional about building and maintaining trust. Learn the four core elements: common ground, predictability, consideration and forewarning. This model will not only hold you to a high standard of conduct, but it will also serve as a diagnostic tool for difficult interactions or damaged relationships.

Session 11 | LEAD Your Self

The best (and happiest) leaders have satisfying inner work lives: consistently positive emotions; strong motivation; and a favorable perception of their organization, their work, and their colleagues. To accomplish this, we will outline two forces that enable progress: catalysts that directly facilitate work; and nourishers that create encouragement, respect, and collegiality. We will revisit the principles of mindfulness and dive deeper into the idea that our natural state of being is wellness. Learn to quiet your inner critic with empathy and self-compassion. Perspective, non-judgment, emotional awareness, emotional expression, self-kindness, and looking at your common humanity will keep you centered and present. Finally, we will emphasize the importance of not only women mentoring other women, but trusting yourself to be mentored by men so that both minds expand around diversity and gender balance. Especially within a male-dominated industry, your personal growth can open men to see more, and do better in contributing to a balanced and diverse workforce.

Session 12 | LEAD Your Life

We will revisit your strengths, values, gifts, passions, dreams and talents. Integrate the things that you appreciate and value about yourself with what others appreciate and value about you. Establish guided principles that put an end to people-pleasing and excessive care-taking, and rather, focus on service, purpose and mission. Explore your character traits that are consistently threaded throughout your life. This points to your true body of work and you will begin to see your whole self showing up in the world. Apply these new insights to a community-building model where you join an ecosystem of like-minded people, bridge connections, be a beacon of light, seed new ideas and release them to spread your life’s truest passion and purpose.
